In the National Premier League Heworth, fielding a side containing several promising youngsters, due to injuries and unavailability, were comprehensively beaten 44-6 by West Bowling in a mainly one-sided contest at Elmpark Way. The Bradford based side possessed just too much pace and power for the Villagers who struggled throughout to contain their more experienced opponents.
The visitors showed their intentions early and went ahead with a converted try in the second minute with their first attack of the match before going on to add four more unanswered touchdowns to forge a comfortable 28-0 interval lead.
The Black and Whites came out at the start of the second period determined to stem the tide and showed plenty of fighting spirit to keep their line intact and it wasn't until the midway point that the visitors were able to cross for two further touchdowns. The Villagers though kept battling away and their efforts were rewarded on 72 minutes with a consolation try for centre Billy Sturdy converted by scrum half Jack Sadler. Wests however had the last word after posting their eighth score in the final minute and scrum half Harry Williams sixth conversion completed a tough afternoon for Heworth.
Jack Sadler was voted Man of the match for the Villagers with Jonny Payne, Harrison Briggs and Ben Blackburn also catching the eye.
Next Saturday Heworth face another stiff task when they make the long journey to Whitehaven to take on Wath Brow Hornets. (2.30pm)
